Fall Camping Trip @ Lake Towhee Park

*** THIS WEEKEND ***

Those wanting to join us can still sign up…just email Tom directly @

trmarte@yahoo.com

Hey Pack 20…it’s CAMPING TIME!!!

This weekend we will embark on our first camp-out of the season.  It will be at Lake Towhee Park in Upper Bucks County (Old Bethlehem Pike, Applebachsville, PA).  We will meet at the park at 11:00am Saturday, Oct 10th and we will break camp and leave the park after breakfast on Sunday, Oct 11th.

Cost

We’re going to try to do this on $20 per scout/parent. Which we are going to front likely with our own personal money.  If the cost is slightly more per family, we’ll adjust at the campground.  There's not enough time to collect money in advance, so please bring cash or a blank check to the campground and pay Melani Bracey.

Here is what you need:

1. A tent…there are no platforms or camp buildings.

2. A tarp…this is for under your tent.  Not necessary, but very helpful if the ground is wet.

3. Flashlights

4. Lunch and snacks. Donovan and I bring some juice, peanut butter crackers, and granola bars, etc.

5. Sleeping bag & pillow

6. Hiking boots or sturdy sneakers and a spare pair in case they get wet or muddy. (No crocs, flip flops, etc.)

7. A hat, jacket, etc. for a cool night.

8. Toothbrush, hand towel, toiletries. There are bathrooms & TP, but it never hurts to BYO

9. A poncho or raingear. It's best to be prepared then soaking wet.

10. Fishing equipment  (Not part of our set agenda, but might try our luck Sunday)

11. A song to share around the campfire (optional...but FUN)

12. Class B t-shirts (we'll bring the newly designed ones if they're ready...otherwise wear last years. Tigers I will have as many as I can available...please see Melani Bracey when you pay)

***Camp knives are allowed, but must remain with parent when not being used by scout. ***

If you have other camping gear feel free to bring it.  Some things we could use are: another camp stove, a griddle, untensils, a French press coffee maker and/or percolator, a couple tarps (particularly if it looks wet that weekend), lanterns, saw and firewood.

BUT THE BEST THING TO BRING IS A SENSE OF ADVENTURE AND A GREAT ATTITUDE…THAT IS WHAT SCOUTING IS ALL ABOUT!!!

Our camping activities will include fire safety, shelter design, whittling, hiking, and possibly archery.

We will provide a "Mexican" themed dinner, campfire marshmallows, and a pancake, sausage & juice breakfast. Please feel free to bring along a side dish to enhance our Mexican camping experience.

You will be responsible for lunch on Sat. and any other snacks needed to get you through.

  Pitching In
We are going to need everyone’s help this weekend so please step right up and fill a gap when you see it.  Particularly if you see the scouts needing a bit of direction.  Many of the activities and efforts are already distributed out to some of the parents, but definitely not all.  When you get there, come ask us how you can help and we’ll assign you a particular task…but don’t let that be the only thing you help with.  Always jump in and help out with activities.

Transportation & Directions (click here)

We’ll all rely on you to get yourselves up there.

Carpooling is a great idea and will add to the fun, so try to do that if you can swing it logistically.

  What Not To Bring

Guns

Alcohol

Electronics

Bad attitudes…we’re here to have FUN!

What is Cub Scouting?

Cub Scouting is for boys in the first grade through the fifth grade and molds its activities around the family.  Parents can help with projects and advancement programs at home.  Cub Scouts meet weekly in small den groups and monthly as members of the pack for an evening of fun and games, skits, ceremonies, and recognition.  Cub Scouting is "fun with purpose," which capitalizes on a young boy's interests, yet teaches them life skills such as self-confidence, self-esteem, and teamwork.  Camping and other outdoor activities are also part of the fun!  Don't let your boy miss the adventure!
DO YOUR BEST.
